Office Jarrik Ouburg is a young international operating office founded in 2008 in Amsterdam practicing architecture and urban design. Trained as an architect in Switzerland, Japan, Belgium and The Netherlands, Jarrik Ouburg gained a broad international experience on all levels of the building process. Having worked in different countries each with their own specific architectural culture, the office learned that there is not one way to approach an assignment. The qualities of a project lie within the merits of the assingment itself and the quality of the architect lies in his or her ability take advantage of these qualities. By critically analysing the context as well as the assignment the office gives solutions that do justice to the specificity of each project. This sometimes means that the assignment itself needs to be adjusted to meet the qualities that lie within the project. The first sketch is in a way the assignment itself. A principle starting point of the office is that with every good project the creator remains on the background and ‘space’ is given for other interpretations. Beauty and style are not elements that are being added to the building throug arbitrary ‘design’. If a building is constructed within a certain style, the office tries to do that within the style of the building itself and not in that of the architect. |
